I still don’t know who nominated me again this year, but THANK YOU, and thank you to the committee for selecting me amongst a field of worthy business owners.
The sole proprietor has my sincere appreciation, and should have yours too, but it’s probably impossible for anyone to realize just how hard it is to be a Company Of One. In any one day, I have to be my own receptionist, secretary, accounts payable, accounts receivable (ALWAYS FREAKING ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE), marketer, financier (do I have lunch, or put gas in my car), answering service, IT technician, bookkeeper, and oh, yeah, a photographer and/or web developer. We have to juggle all of these things, make it look effortless to anyone looking in, AND try to have a life outside of this thing we have created for ourselves. Most (if not all) sole proprietors I know are at least married and have a working spouse, and what a godsend that must be because you can probably breathe here and there throughout the day. But not this girl. Every thing I do, every decision I make has a direct impact on something else – it can be a nightmare.
So I gladly accept this award and savour it until the morrow, because it’ll be back to all of those listed above come 7am and no stopping for the foreseeable future!
THANK YOU! And congratulations to everyone who was nominated and who won!
